A magical day in Palermo at the Teatro dei Pupi of Mimmo Cuticchio.
The art of Sicilian puppetry is an ancient tradition where Ariosto’s knights of the “Orlando Furioso” come to life. Originally told in 365 episodes,one for each evening of the year.
These stories were performed after work so everyone could attend.
During our visit we discovered the history, stepped backstage, felt the weight of a “pupo”, and learned how it takes at least 10 years of training to master their movements. To become a true “Mastro Puparo” who animates, narrates, and gives voice to every character, is a lifelong calling, passed down through generations.
Meeting the Cuticchio family, among the greatest puppet masters in the world, was truly an honor. โค๏ธ๐ญ
