What language will be spoken during the event?
English will be the main language used for rehearsals and official communications.
A basic understanding of English is recommended, but don’t worry: our organisers and coaches use simple, clear language, and we also speak several major European languages. You can always reach us in English, German, Italian, or Romanian.
What if there aren’t enough participants?
The application deadline is three months before the start of the holiday. If we do not reach the minimum number of
participants by that date, the program will be adapted for a smaller ensemble. If the minimum is not reached even for this format, the holiday will unfortunately be cancelled.
My instrument is bulky and I can’t transport it - what should I do?
Timpani, percussion instruments, and harp are provided on-site (including mallets and tuning accessories). Double basses
can be supplied free of charge upon request, just remember to bring your own bow. For cellists or anyone whose instrument require booking an EXTRA SEAT on airlines, we also offer a rental service through our partners in Palermo. Please contact us as early as possible so we can provide full details about costs and rental terms.
Do I need to bring my own music stand?
The staff of Sicily Music Holidays has enough stands and lights for all participants, which will be used during rehearsals
and the concert. We suggest bringing your personal travel stand to use in your room if you’d like to practice in your room during free time.
Is there a minimum playing level required?
At Sicily Music Holidays, we believe no one should ever feel excluded, and everyone can enjoy a rich musical experience, regardless of their level or experience. Our mentors, coming from some of Europe’s top orchestras, are highly qualified and have extensive experience preparing amateur orchestras. The different levels within the orchestra have never stood in the way of an unforgettable concert for both performers and listeners.
If you have a sufficient technical level, some experience in orchestral or chamber music, and your intonation is reliable, Sicily Music Holidays is the perfect fit for you—there’s no reason to hesitate!
How to reach us - airports
Sicily may seem far away, but it’s actually very well connected. In the past decade, Sicilian airports have become leaders in
air travel, offering numerous direct flights to major cities across Europe and beyond.
You’ll find over 50 direct European destinations, plus two weekly direct flights from New York to Palermo and Catania. If you prefer traveling by car or camper, Italy has excellent highways and multiple daily ferry services from major European ports.
Insurance
All our holidays include basic insurance, which protects us as organisers from minor accidents and damages to third
parties (such as instruments or hotel property).
For your own safety and peace of mind, however, we strongly recommend purchasing additional travel insurance from your preferred agency. This should cover your personal needs, including minor accidents, medical expenses, or reimbursement of travel costs in case you need to cancel after the application deadline.
Will I have Wi-Fi access at the hotel?
Yes! All our partner hotels provide free Wi-Fi with full coverage in the property and surrounding areas. Just ask for the password at reception when you check in, and you’ll be connected right away.
When can I expect a refund?
A full refund of the fee paid will be issued only if the holiday is cancelled due to a lack of participants. Please note that travel expenses, such as airline tickets, train, or ferry costs, are NON-refundable.
Will I incur extra costs while on vacation with you?
Travel expenses (flights, ferries, trains) are not included in our fee and must be covered by participants. Some extras that are NOT included but can be easily arranged at an additional cost are:
- Rental of bicycles, scooters, or cars
- Rental of musical instruments
Can non-musicians (partner, family, friends) join too?
Absolutely! Many participants bring along their partner, family, or friends. While you are busy rehearsing, they can enjoy
the beauty of Sicily, relax by the pool, explore the village, or discover local culture. They’ll also join the group for meals, excursions, and evening events (everything besides the rehearsals) , so everyone shares the holiday together!
Can dietary needs (vegetarian/vegan/gluten free) be accommodated?
Of course. Our Partner Restaurants are used to welcoming guests with different dietary needs and always provide
vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. Just let us know your preferences in advance, and we’ll make sure you can enjoy delicious Sicilian food without worrying.
